Northern Powergrid has launched an innovative new tool in the hope of accelerating electric vehicle (EV) uptake.
On 4 February, it unveiled the free, online AutoDesign which will help to identify the best locations for new EV charging points. It is underpinned by real-world network data and uses green, amber and red indicators to guide users to where the most cost effective and viable connection options are. An indicative connection cost is provided within minutes, rather than the current average of 10 days.
Derek Fairbairn, System Design Manager at Northern Powergrid, said: “AutoDesign will provide real benefits and an enhanced level of real-world insight. It will enable local authorities, EV installers and businesses planners to see, in a matter of minutes, the best locations to install chargers and the associated cost. This newly available network data intelligence will significantly improve the EV connections process and help accelerate the clean transport transition.”
