Western Power Distribution contracts 119MW of flexibility

Western Power Distribution (WPD) has announced that 35 participants operating 87 assets have been awarded flexibility contracts totalling 119MW after its latest procurement round.

On 9 October, the DNO explained that the contracts covered all 17 of its constraint management zones (CMZs). Thirteen of the awarded zones have requirements over the coming winter season, while the remaining four are set to be required over the course of summer 2020. WPD noted that all of the flexibility zones to be awarded have ongoing requirements forecast out to 2024.

Network Strategy Manager, Ben Godfrey, said: “The results of this latest procurement round show a large increase in the amount of participants, proving confidence in DSO flexibility markets is growing and it’s evident that more providers are able to participate confidently in distribution flexibility.”

Further flexibility locations are set to be announced in the new year, with another procurement window to be opened on 3 February 2020.
